Firmware Password Utility - Password doesn't Work Now!

In the process of installing Leopard I setup the "Firmware Password Utility"... later when I needed to set a "System Preference", I entered my PW but the system did not recognize it???

I read somewhere else here, that the only way to get past this is to change the quantity of the Ram then a new PW may be entered.

My problem is the "Mini Mac" is still under warranty, and I'm not even sure how to get into the box? Will hitting the HD with a heavy magnet (thus wiping all data magnetically) allow me to re-install Leopard?

Are there any other alternatives? Or remedies?

Don't do the magnet thing, you will more likely kill it than anything else. Then on top of that it won't help since the password is in the firmware. If you can prove it is yours ad it is still under warranty you could try to take it to the Apple Store and have them do it or you.

That is kinda what I was thinking too. Good to know it wouldn't solve the firmware thing. So just go there with all my receipts and stuff... and thy should be able to help... i sure hope so... hate to have a $800 paper weight.

I think there should be some STRONGER WARNINGS in the utitlity when it comes to this... although I think this is an APPLE issue. As I put in the right password... the system just doesn't recognise it... in fact there was a fix related to similar types of problem... but I couldn't even upload the fix, because of the PW not working.

Anyway thanks

It really is not a big deal, but it is a pain to open the mini so it may be best to let the pros do it.
