Firmware patch from one comp to another?

Hi, please ignore the title of this post tried to change it but couldn't the real question is above in bold.

I have an G4 Imac with what seems like a dead dislay but to be sure I'd like to hook up a second screen to it just to be certain it isn't the video card or something else thats causing a problem.

I want to enable desktop mirroring, but obviously I cant from my Imac so If I booted the imac in target mode could I copy my display prefs from my mac ( working display ) after enabling mirroring and copy it over to the imac ( dead display ) overwriting the imacs prefs?

yep it's a G4 1.25GHz, could you explain a litte please, I haven't done this myself before, are you saying I should just be able to hook up another screen to it without having to edit any display prefs?
