Flash Reject

I'm running OS X 10.2.8 on a PowerPC G4 Dual 1.25 Processors w/ 1.25Gb of ram. I am unable to update my OS due to the version of Avid I am running...
Everytime I try and install the newest flash player, it tells me, "Please close all browsers before beginning the install." EVERYTHING IS CLOSED!
Anyone know why this would be?

I have tried a complete reboot, cold start, and logging out. I also reinstalled Mac OS X Update Combo 10.2.8. That installed Flash Player 6, but some of the sites I want to look at require 7 or 8.

I believe this is just a standard warning message that happens whether you have any programs open or not.

Does the install continue after this message has popped up and you've dismissed it?

No, it starts to install, then in a "flash" it pops back to the warning.
It's like it keeps tripping over this problem.

I had this problem with Flash Player 9. I know the message I'm responding to is old, but here's something to try for new people who stumble across the thread:

- open a terminal
- navigate into the Contents/MacOS subdirectory of the installer dir; if the installer is on your desktop you would do

cd ~/Desktop/"Install Flash Player 9 UB.app"/Contents/MacOS

- run the installer:

./"Install Flash Player 9 UB"

Now it might work. It did for me. My problem was that the installer couldn't find grep when it was running from the GUI -- it's almost like the environment variables for programs run from the GUI are different than the ones that the console uses, and my path isn't set correctly.

My apologies if you're already aware of this, but when you said that everything was closed, did you actually do a "File-->Quit" on each of those apps or did you just close the window by clicking on the red button? If all you did was close the window, then the application is still running (you'll see a black triangle under the open app's icon on the Dock). Unlike in Windows where clicking on the "close" button actually quits the application, closing a window in OS X (and even before OS X) only does just that....close the window. If you want to quit the application, you have to either select to Quit from the menu or hit Command-Q.

Give that a try and then run the installation again.

Again, apologies if you were already aware of this. :)
