Hello All,

I hope anyone out there can help me on this.
I was making a backup to my iPod and I accidently, how supid of me, copied the older folder onto the new folder. So, the new one is gone... and the old one sits on my desktop.

IS there a way to recover the previous folder (new one)? I havn't yet emptied the trash can... does that help?

Thanks in advance,

No, the only chance you have is a utility to scan your disk and search for data that has had its address location erased (which is what happens when you erase data... the data isn't destroyed until it's overwritten, but the address location is erased). It's iff if you've overwritten the folder, but you may have some luck.

Well... At leas I have some chance....
What kind of utility would I use for this?

Thanks...

I honestly don't know. I used to be able to use Norton Utilities, back with version 3.5 or something, but that was like OS 8.X and Norton has become evil regarding using it on OS X.

Whatever you do, STOP using your computer immediately. The more you use it between now and whenever you start trying to use a utility to recover your files, the more likely it is that they will be overwritten.

I've heard of people finding lost files in a hidden tmp directory at the root of their hard drive. Mine had some interesting stuff in it. I've also heard of disappeared files being found in a hidden "lost+found" directory, but my computer doesn't seem to have one of those.
