folder turning into .app WTF!

This has happened to somebody I work with 3 times in the last week running OS X 10.1.5. They are working on a folder and then suddenly it turns into a .app file. Is there something he is doing wrong or is this some wierd occurence.

The first time it happened to files on his MAC but the last 2 times it happened to a folder on a UNIX Server. This is not good at all since he thought all the files got deleted since he couldn't open it. The most recent folder had 2 GigaBytes of Photoshop files an then all of a sudden it thinks it's a .app!

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have no clue on how this has happened (vaque idea that it has gotten package flag somehow set as true) , but s/he can gain acces to the folder by control-clicking on that app, and selecting "view package contents" then copy over to new desired location...

>>package flag set as true
Isn't there some utility/shareware app that you can edit all thos flags with? BatChmod or FileExaminer? If I just set the package flag to false it should just go back to normal.

Cabbage, BAtchmod cannot help in this, it sets only privileges, but that FileExaminer you mentioned sounds promising. FileBuddy is one alternative...
