this question was considered "closed", but i still need help.
the orig exchange is below:
hi. OSX 10.4.2
g4
it seems i have trouble with my mouse and Kensington trackball. it takes a strangely long time to "grab" an icon and then drag it.
often, after i think im' dragging something, i had only highlighted the icon but not "grabbed" it, so i then have to go back, click on the offending icon, and then wait a beat before i can drag.
this problem never happened with my g3/ kensington.
and i find that it happens both with the kensgington and the normal trackpad on the g4...
know a way to speed up the computer's recognition of dragging?
Response(s)
I think that if you increase your double-click speed in your Mouse/PB prefpane the problem will go away. Are you using the Kensington trackball software and is it up to date? If you are, disable it, it might be creating problems with trackpad operation. HTH and please let us know what happens.

it doesn't seem to be a double-click issue, but moreover an issue of recognizing a click; it's one click that grabs something.
the grabbing problem is still there, despite the newest version of kensignton.
and, too, it also happens with the regular trackpad.
any thoughts? i installed USB overdrive too -- nothin.
thanks.

problem still happenning. it seems to happen when the computer is "thinking" hard, but also when it's not...
huh.
i now would describe it as a "clicking" problem. the mac simply doesn't understand that i've clicked on something, even after 1-3 seconds...
