so all of my fonts (couple hundred, maybe 1000+) are sitting in my Library/Fonts folder... but all of a sudden over the past day or two font book stopped recognizing them, and so did all my apps (most notably photoshop). i dont know why this happened, and ive tried readding them to font book but it doesnt do anything... again, havent really done anything in the past few days but they all just stopped working... ahhH!

Welcome to the forum.

First, what did you install or do just before this happened?

Have you tried using a Disk Utility like Disk Warrior or Drive 10 to scan and repair the drive?

I figured i wouldn't start a new thread...

Someone is trying to send me some fonts for a project, first they placed them on a ftp, they display as text files or Unix Executable. Tried zipping, and placing them in a sit file... regardless what we tried to do, the fonts still display with a file size of 0k.

They are on a Mac, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any ideas?

For the original poster of the font issue: Make sure you haven't moved your fonts or renamed the fonts folder. Try reimporting them. Also consider using Suitcase especially if you use a lot of fonts. FontBook is bad (from what I hear) at organizing 50+ fonts. Don't load all your fonts at one time.

As for the second poster, have the person send you the fonts stuffed or zipped (compressed) because files, especially fonts, can get corrupted as they pass through a computer, a server, then another server and another computer.

Let us know, both of you, how things go. :)

Make sure the sender is sending the full family of the font and it is ddf or ttf
