For anyone having probs with their ScanWizard 5 software

eric halfabee

You talking to me!
I Had a problem with SW 5 for a 5700 Microtek scanner on 10.3.1. I did a
clean install and installed the SW software again. After launching SW
software or trying to I got SW trying to load and then the OCR bundle
part trying to load. Both then crashed generating a crash report thing.

Anyway I thought why not trash the OCR bundle folder and try again. (I think there is also an optin to disable it when you install but not sure).

Lo and behold SW now fires up and I can scan again with my 5700.

This is from MacFixIt;

Microtek scanner statement
Microtek has issued us an updated statement on Panther support for its line of scanners (for more information on troubleshooting scanners in Mac OS X 10.3.x, see the section of our special report entitled "Solving Scanner Problems").

The company says:

"Microtek is committed to the Mac community and is currently in the process of developing full Panther compatible drivers. In the meantime, we have updated our Panther workaround instructions for ScanWizard Pro and Pro TX that was recently posted.

"This workaround will support scanners which were previously supported under Mac OS 10.1.5-10.2.8. Unfortunately this work-around will not support SCSI Only scanners. Please note, although this solution has worked for most users; however it has not worked for all. Please visit http://www.support.microtek.com for the latest on Panther support and compatibility information. If you have further questions please call our Macintosh Consultants at 310-687-5922 for further assistance."

[The published workaround is a step-by-step process that involves extracting and deleting SCSI components of the Support Bundles folder]

All the updated Panther information can also be viewed at http://www.support.microtek.com/panther.phtml

Hi bobw,

Yeah I saw that and thats what led me to my post, my 5700 is FW and USB so there was no SCSI components that I could find in the location mentioned. Also I dont think they are refering to ScanWizard 5 that I use, just the Pro and Pro TX versions – whatever they are.

BTW 'Vuescan' works fine with the 5700 anyway but I dont own that.
