Format SCSI HD

Hi all,

I successfully mount a SCSI HD, Quantum 36 GB, in Mac OS X with an ATTO UL2D. My first problem was that when I did a "Get Info" on the hard drive, 2 GB were missing (capacity 36 GB, available 34GB), although nothing appeared. I thought that by initializing my HD at a "low level", I would regain the 2 GB missing. But the only application I had in hand to do so was Drive Setup from Apple in Mac OS 9. I rebooted in OS 9, launch Drive setup, the initialization... but then after an hour or so I wanted to check something in one of my other HDs.. so the Finder opened a window, everything worked fine... then when I double click on something, the computer froze!!
And now, both Mac OS X and 9 Apple Profilers see the HD but I can't initialize it or mount it  !!!
No application sees it  .

Any suggestions :D ?
Thank you

That's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. But No application (Drive 10, Drive Setup, Disk 1rst Aid, haven't tried norton utilities yet) under OS 9 nor OS X can actually see teh HD; only the OS can (via Apple System Profiler).

One thing is that you're probably misunderstanding the capacity of the drive vs. the actual available space. A typical 36GB hard drive will only format out to have 30-35GB available for use. That's just the way it is.

I think there was a 2GB partition (for Linux) on my HD... that's why 2GBs were missing.
But my issue if getting to format it now. What can I do or use to format my HD? (other than Drive 10, Norton or Drive setup that actually don't see the HD).

Mike from xlr8YourMac.com kindly replied to my email exposing my issue.
One of his suggestions is to put my SCSI on a PC and use FDISK.
Has anyone done this before?
I will check info on the web and post what happened, but if anyone has done this before I would love to know the result and/or know the commands.

Thank you.
