forward syslog messages

I have a question that is yet to be resolved. I'm trying to forward the syslog messages from my OS X box to a log host on a RedHat Linux box. I edited the /etc/syslog.conf and put *.debug in the file as I would do on a Solaris box. However, I'm not seeing the syslog being forwarded. Any step that I might be missing? Thanks.
 
Don't know if this helps, but in root's home, /var/root there is a .forward that points to /dev/null
 
Usually in unix you specify a loghost in the /etc/hosts file to specify where messages generated by syslogd go, but I don't know how you would do this with Netinfo.
