ftp upload problems

I'm having big problems with uploading files to my web site using ftp. Small files (say, < 1K) can be uploaded with no problems, but larger ones (I've noticed this, for example, with a 4.8K file--not that 4.8K is large by any means!) seem too hang, causing the connection ultimately to time out.

The appearance of these problems seems to coincide with my switch from a cable modem to a DSL connection. It could also have to do with my update to 10.1.1 (I'm not exactly sure when the problem first appeared), but I don't think so. I've been in touch with my web site host, and their tech support cannot find anything wrong on their end. As far as my DSL connection provider (Ameritech) is concerned, they're looking into the problem now.

It does seem rather odd to me that I can upload small files but not larger ones. I would instead expect to have lost the capability for ftp upload altogether.

Has anyone had similar problems--and if so, were you able to solve them?

Hi all,

Am having a similiar problem - except i cannot seem to upload anything! The files seems to upload to 100%, then times out, resulting in a file of 0kb being placed on the server. I've tried several different upload programs, tried turing passive mode on and off, tried uploading from a different location (at my sisters place who uses cable - not dsl, with no routers or firewalls etc) and still no avail!!

This MTU info sounds interesting but the link doesn't seem to work....

Any ideas guys??? Cos i'm sick of having to log in via BootCamp to upload!!

Thanks,
Andy

I had such a problem and next to changing the upload script (deleting the target map before uploading), i also discovered that errors on the harddrive (fixed with disk utils) might have cause some of the problems. At the moment i have no problems for a couple of days.

Good luck, Kees
