G3 owners....need a little boost?

OK, I know this subject has been covered before, but Im posting my story for the benefit of recent 9-to-X switchers.

I have a Firewire PB G3 500, and I was nearly ready to switch back to 9.2 today, when I decided to look into tweaking a little more speed out of Jaguar.

Unsanity's Shadowkiller program really helps speed up the interface... making the menus snappy again, like in 9, but they look funny with the same white backgrounds and no shadows.

So I got a copy of Duality theme switcher, and the spanking new PantherPRO theme, and that makes the menus a nice 9-like gray color that shows up much better.

If anyone is running X on a G3, I recommend at least trying out Shadowkiller and flicking some dropdown menus, just to see how much faster it is! Its all free, too. :D

Hey, running Panther on G3/500 (see specs), and speed has so much increased that 90% of my everyday programs launch in one Dock bounce. Speed is extremely satisfactiry, except for Unreal Tournament which is the ONLY program that keeps me using OS9, even if that's problematic at the moment.

Hey, it worked! Now if I could only get the actual programs to run faster! :(

Thanks BitWit!!!

Im glad it worked, Trip, and now if I could only scrape together the thousands of dollars to replace all the software that I had in 9. :P

I do look forward to trying panther eventually, after I see some more input from G3 users. ;)

And the computer itself, right? ;)

I'll have to check this out. I mean, I love the look of OS X, but it runs like such crap on my iMac that I use OS 9 most of the time... besides the hole in my Classic environment.

HELP!

I was playing around with the Themes stuff (but never ended up installing one) and I installed iFix from this site:

http://homepage.mac.com/max_08/index.htm

I didn't really notice much difference so I uninstalled it. But my iTunes buttons still looked funny. I restarted Finder and tried a few things, still it didn't look right.

I had FOUR iFix files in my Receipts folder. I removed the iTunes one but still no change.

So I REINstalled iFix and UNinstalled it again.

This time I had SIX iFix files in my Receipts folder and my iTunes and Quicktime buttons were BLUE instead of Red/Yellow/Green. The 2 new receipts were called iTunesiFixBlue and QuicktimeiFixBlue.

I can't get them back to their regular colors!!!
