I'm trying to connect my girlfriends old Powerbook G3 to her G4 titanium via ethernet crossover cable in an effort to get some files from the old to the newer. I'm having a tough time. Is it easy or possible??

Thanks!

Ryan

The G3 has no firewire port, or an airport card. It's an old old computer. The only way I can connect 2 the machines is via "ETHERNET."

Thanks for the target disk advice, unfortunately that's firewire specific.

I see. What's the OS that you have installed on those PowerBooks? Have you made any progress with the ethernet?

Hello again! Thanks for reading my rambles.

As for the OS, on the G4 she's running the latest version of Tiger, and on the old G3 she's running OS 9.1.

I think I've made a little progress but I'm not at her machines so I cant try it out.

Thanks!!

Thanks!!!

I know it can work, I just haven't done it before. I wish her old G3 had firewrie for target mode. Oh well, I'll get it working. Thanks for the help for sure.

make sure to enable appletalk on the OSX/G4 machine, in "System Preferences > Network".
then find the ip of the one machine, and use that to try to connect to the other..
should work..
