I got a G4/800 Quicksilver 512mb ram, that won´t start.
The power switch lights up when you press it, but but goes off when released.
I have tried all the things I have found on this site- (PMU, and all that).
When I take the battery out, it starts up, but only to show a "broken folder".
The fan in the power-supply don´t start, (all other fans start) but I don´t know if that starts later in the process.

Can anyone please help.

Is the power-supply out?
The wierd thing is that it started fully in OS9, (without battery), but then I wanted to try OSX, and upon restart "broken folder".

I'm guessing that you need a replacement PMU battery. It can't be the power supply if it's actually booting up into OS 9. See about getting a replacement battery from an Apple reseller.

Thanks for the reply, but I have tried to change the battery.

I got this Quicksilver from a firm who wanted to throw it away.
They said that it was dead (Power-button only lights when pressed).
They took the battery out, and donated it to me.
I started it up, (without battery). It started perfectly in OS 9.2.2.
I changed startdisk to OSX, then restarted.
And now I get a grey screen with a "broken folder".

Restart - opt+apple+shift+del = Blinking between "smilemac" and "?", then broken folder.

Restart - opt = It shows OSX drive. I can press "refresh" (does nothing) and "forward" (gives "broken folder" when pressed).

All the above is WITHOUT the battery. If I but that in, (one from my G4 400Mhz, that works!!) then it´s back to: (Power-button only lights when pressed).
It is just so wierd.
Sorry if I was unclear before.

Macabo.
