The power to my G4 is cutting off frequently. I have had it since 2005 with no battery change. However it has been used most of the time with AC connection.
When I try to use it with the battery alone it almost immediately tells me that I'm running low on reserve battery power. However the power display says the battery is charged and the green lights on the battery are solid.
The only remedy I have found is to take out and replace the AC plug. .
This relights the green/amber light at the AC connection point on the laptop and I can usually work for sometime before power cuts out again. I have cleaned the battery connections with alchohol and tried to reset the PMU as well as PRAM.
Is this simply an old dead battery issue and am I harming the computer by doing this or is it ok to use the computer via AC only even if it cuts out occasionally ?
