G4 locks up after installing new ram

I just got a new stick of 512mb PC2700 SDRAM DDR333. My mac is a G4 1.25ghz PowerPC G4 1mbL3Cache, before the ram upgrade he at 768mb of ram. When I inserted the new stick of ram in the empty slot the G4 would run for about 10-15min or so and then lock up. If i tried to run any graphics programs it would lock up even quicker. I checked to make sure the ram was seated correctly and it is.

any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a bad stick of RAM, or the computer just doesn't like that particular RAM configuration.

OS X is picky about RAM -- if the system runs fine without that stick of RAM in there, then you've already narrowed down the problem. I would recommend returning the RAM and getting a replacement.

One thing you can try is the RAM-shuffle: install different RAM sticks in different slots and see if you can find a working configuration of RAM sticks. Sometimes it's just that a particular RAM stick doesn't like being in a particular RAM slot, or that a particular stick of RAM just doesn't like being next to another particular stick of RAM.
