G4 startup and big fan problems

I have a G4MDD that has start up issues.
When I push the start up button, nothing happens.

If I pull the power plug then reconnect it, the computer will start using the start up button on the front, but I noticed the start up chime is different (like older G4's) and the big fan doesn't start. Also icons in the dock don't bounce.

If I then restart using the apple menu, the normal chime comes on, icons react normally, but the big fan still doesn't work.
Just had the big fan replaced so I wondering if I have bigger issues lurking.
Just replace the PRAM battery also.

If you have the machine hooked to an older ACD cinema display where you used to power it up from that all the time, that may be why you need to unlpug it and plug it back in to start from the power button. I've seen that before and not much you can do about it. As far as the fan is concerned I'd double check it is plugged into the power supply or logic board. Maybe whoever replaced it didn't plug it in.

There is no variation in the standard boot chime for any PowerMac G4 - they all sound alike. If you go back into older classic Mac, such as the first LC models, and older ones with the 68030 processor, then you hear 3 or 4 different chime sounds. but not in G4s.
I suspect that the system is just getting marginal power. That will probably explain why your fan is not working, too. The MDD models do have problems with the power supply, but replacing that is really expensive, especially if you consider the value of a 7 year old computer. It will likely be cheaper to buy a used complete MDD.
