g5 1.6 SP freezing problems

I bought a SP 1.6 G5 on ebay last month and have been experiencing intermittent system freezes which require a hard reset. No SPOD, no KP message, and nothing in the system log. Just a frozen machine. I've done just about all the troubleshooting I can think of--RAM swapping, disconnecting all peripherals, reinstalling OS (Leopard), installing Tiger, installing OS on new drive--to no avail. I've read a lot of posts here and in other forums from a few years ago detailing similar problems, and I'm hoping someone found a solution that didn't involve a logic board replacement. Any insight would be much appreciated. TIA

Have you tried the Apple hardware test cd? The one I have is separate from the install disk, but from other members posts I believe it's on the install disk for the new OS's.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have the original disks for this machine, and the hardware test isn't on the OS install DVD. I've got the disks for my old Quicksilver G4, but AHT is machine-specific and won't run on the G5. Do you know of a way to get a copy other than waiting for Apple to send one?

Doesn't seem to be for AHT. It does sound like the logic board. Have you tried to zap the PRAM? And also, see if there are any firmware updates you can do.

I was able to run hardware tests from the TechTool Pro disk, and everything passed. At this point, based on trial and error, I have to conclude it's a logic board issue. The interesting thing is that I left the machine powered up serving a webcam while I away for a week, and it didn't crash once. That's why I suspected a software issue at first. Anyway, thanks for the input.
