I can't seem to get my superdrive to work. When I put in a dvd or cd it dosen't go into the burn mode. I have not been that impressed with the speed of this machine also. Any suggestions on what I can do??

What OS version are you running? How much RAM do you have on that system? What is the clockspeed of the CPUs?

I'm running 10.4.3, I have a half gig of ram and I'm not sure what you mean by clock speed. CPU Type is Power pCG5 (3.0). 2 cpu's. Bus speed 1Ghz. CPU speed 2 Ghz. Thank you, alot of this is new to me.

By clock speed I meant the CPU speed rating (GHz). Try zapping the PRAM by holding down Apple-Option-P-R altogether right after the Mac bootup chime. Hold it down after about 3 chimes and then let go. Also, head to Applications-->Utilities and launch Disk Utility. Have Disk Utility repair your permissions. Another great tool to have is OnyX which is free.

As for the burning issue, do you mean the popup dialog window that comes up asking you what to do? Is that not displaying anymore? If you head into System Preferences and select "CDs & DVDs." In there, set the options for what do with a blank CD/DVD to "Ask what to do." That should bring back that dialog window once you insert a blank CD/DVD.

You mentioned speeding things up, bumping your RAM up to a full GigaByte or better yet with a dual processor G5 2 GB will make a substantial improvement. OS X likes RAM, lots of RAM.
