G5 iMac (i sight) black screen, no startup chime

I have a 2 month old 20" 2.1 GHz G5 iMac with i-sight, running 10.4.5 (I think) and 1.5 GHz of ram.

my screen froze a couple of days ago, and could not escape and had to switch of with the power button. Before i did however, I noticed that my bluetooth icon had a line through it. weird.

when I tried to startup again, I get get no chimes, my keyboard and mouse dont respond, and im left with a black screen. I hear internal noise and my sleep light is on permanently, but after a couple of minutes my fan goes into overdrive.

as my keyboard is inop, i cant use any of the keyboard combos to reset anything, or boot from my install disk. a couple of times the fan has stopped after a few minutes, and I get a grey screen with spinning gear, but it goes no further.

a couple of times the machine has booted up fully: once with the install disk so i ran disk utility. the drive repaired 'ok' and displayed that the s.m.a.r.t status was verified, and allowed a permissions repair also.

The second time, i got to my desktop and clicked on the bluetooth icon at the top of the display, but this revealed that bluetooth ' is not available '.
on opening system preferences i discovered that there is no bluetooth icon under hardware.

when i have tried turning the power back on, i have first unplugged the power lead to reset the smu, but to no avail.

Apple think it is a hardware issue, but i am not so sure.

should also point out that this machine is solely for pro tools audio recording, and as such, does not like having bluetooth activated.

If i could get the machine to boot, i would upgrade to 10.4.6 to see if it cures the issue. alternatively, if i could boot from the install disk, i would wipe the drive and start anew, as all my data is on an external drive.

THANK GOD FOR MY 12" POWERBOOK (Mrs Robertson)

I dont want to send this away for a 2-3 week holiday as it is so new.

any ideas

Call Apple right now. This should have not happened. I think the machine is still under warranty.

have already contacted Apple and have a case number to return it to a service technician.

funny thing is, if i leave it unplugged for a few minutes and then power uo, it takes me to the select language screen for a software install (the last time i got my desktop up I selected the install disc as the startup disk) but my pointer is stuck in the top corner. I have no power to the keyboard or mouse, unless i give the mouse it's own usb port (it gets power, but still doesn't work). thinking the keyboard may also be a problem, i swapped it over, but with the same results.

My only reservation is that I dont want this to become one of those macs that has regular trips to service departments for problems that never go away!

I have seen similar issues raised on other forums, but nobody seems to be able to shed any light on this matter.

any ideas
