G5 Superdrive

My G5 SuperDrive is giving me a "no disc" error when I try to burn in iDVD. It sounds like it starts to spin up, then stops and generates the error message. I have successfully burned many previous projects, even this one (just minutes before).
Are there any diagnostic tests I should run before calling Apple?

Make sure that you are using the right format of DVD.. DVD+R is totally different from DVD-R.. I'm not familiar with the G5 superdrive, so I cannot say which format will work, if not both..
