G5: to buy or not?

I'm trying to get some opinions here...I'm needing a desktop system to continue working on my video and graphics with because my laptop (PB 1.25 15") is just not cutting it. Don't get me wrong, it's a great system, but I need something with dual processors to get my stuff done quicker. I love my G5 at work, but I do all this same work on the side as well, so a G5 at home would be really nice...

So....the question....do I buy a dual 2.0 G5 now or should I wait until the WWDC to see if Steve brings out anything new? I know that if and when new systems arrive, they won't ship for a while, there will be a big backorder...yadda yadda yadda....we've all seen it before...

just wanted some opinions....

If I were you, I would wait. The rumors are flying left and right about the upcoming G5s and their improved design compared to the current ones out now.

Even if nothing comes out by that time, at least time will have passed that hopefully prices will have come down a little more on the current systems. :D

I couldn't agree more. Wait a few months, it will definitely pay off in the end.

Prices don't come down UNLESS something new is released or systems get updated. And even then you'd have to go through a thirdy party vendor to get the previous systems at the discounted price.

Look at the recent iBook/PowerBook/eMac upates: you get more horse power for less $$ or the same price of the previous system.

Depends if you need it right now. I can tell you the Dual 1.8 I ordered three weeks ago was just shipped. The IBM plant was reported to having production problems (IMHO the ghost of Motorola).

Also IMHO once the new systems are announced, it will be another 2 months before it ships. I just look at past releases and see that pattern.

Wait... or buy a 2x1.8... it shall probably loose less of its value than the 2x2.0 when new machines arrive.
