Wow, that is a pretty cool ad.

I expect it will be aired when the G5s hit the stores. It looks like the sort of ad that will make a big impact because it is both eye catching and memorable.

I wonder if there's a full-length version (a la the iBook ads).

the ad has been played on tv, I saw it while watching some of the allstar game last night. took me by surprise.

its an ok commerical, really nothing ground breaking. the LCD iMac commercial was far more inspired.

i actually thought it was going to be some HULK/mt dew spinoff commercial when watching it for the first time.

The new G5 is here with a (hulk, you'll like this)

BOOM!

I've seen that commercial on TV several times now, and not once during sports (I'm not a sports person) or on cable (don't have it). And they don't actually have the ad, just a link to it on Apple's site.

Ive seen the new G5 ad during the British Open, one of the Major Golf tournaments of the year, in almost every break commercial break and on cable. Apple really seems to be pushing this ad with their usual media blitz

As far as its effectiveness i dont think that the ad is groundbreaking or anything but the first time some, esp not a mac user, see it they would probably be drawn in to see what caused this

aww, you figured it out. from now on, i'm going to speak vaguely aheheh.

I have a 533mhz Digital Audio G4 on my desk at work.

It's my personal machine. I took it to work because it's faster running one of my primary apps than my PIII 850mhz work-provided Dell system (but slower than my P4 1.6ghz work-provided Dell laptop), because it's more "enjoyable" to use than Windows, and partly because I thought it'd be an interesting conversation-piece (I get a lot of "what's that? It looks so cool". 98% of people at work haven't seen a Mac since pre-1996).

We need new workstations (850mhz PIII for extremely processor-intensive apps? Come on...). I planted the seed in my boss' head the other day that a dual-processor G5 might be the best solution for a new machine. He started laughing - "It's funny" he said, "I just saw a commercial on those things last night and was wondering if they'd do the job". My boss knows nothing about Macs and has the normal Windows pre-conceptions.

Funny thing is, since the G5 commercials started airing, I've had 7 people independently mention something about thoughts of switching to Macs both at work and at home - mostly people that had never really thought about it before, or that I would never expect to have thoughts about switching. And I never heard ANYthing like this when the switch campaign was going on...

Have you guys noticed anything like this? I'm not sure if the ads are more appealing, just getting played at better times and therefore seen by more people, or what, but I'd say whatever Apple's doing is working, and they should keep it up...

i really hope that this set of ads helps apple sell computers but when the average user see the price of the G5 they will probably be turned away real quick, hopefully it could at least get people into the stores to see the iMac, iBook, abd more consumer machines.

I've seen the ad a number of times, much more than any other Apple commercial, so I think more people are being exposed to Mac through a wider variety of shows that previously. Even with Apple's prominent placement during the last Superbowl.

Ripcord: What kind of processor-intensive tasks do you do, and how can your company justify keeping you all on 850 Mhz P3's? That sounds like a company that doesn't know the most efficient way to make their money.

I can't completely argue with that. What I do is tough to explain, but I do a lot of processing and analysis of network traffic. There's only 12 of us doing this out of about 20,000 people in the company, so it's certainly not the norm =)

I think work justified the slow workstations by the fact that we were given 1.6ghz P4 laptops, but even those just are too slow for the job...

*edit - sorry, not 20,000 people in the "country"...fixed it to say "company"*

Now, if that were 1.6 Ghz G5 desktops, I doubt it would be too slow for anything.

Could you go into details, or give examples of some of the companies/web sites/etc. you have worked with, or tasks you have done? Now I'm curious.
