gaming without the disc

i have legally purchased the sims & starcraft, but having the cd in to play causes a lot of extra noise & heat on my little powerbook and means i have to bring the discs with me whenever i want to play...

are there any osx equivalents of the pc 'no-cd' hacks that are so prevalent? i just want to play my games happily!
 
You can make a disk image from the device. Mount this image when you want to play.

I had the same problem with the american heritage dictionary. The pronunciation sould would only work when the CD was in the tray. However, this made to much noise. Making a disk image worked for me.

Another Way of achieving this is mounting the Disc Image with toast (which I think makes the finder think it is mounting a CD and not a disk image). This worked for me with games where mounting the dmg wasn't enough
 
i dont have a burner so buying toast is a little extreme, thanks for the idea though
