GarageBand in Honda commercial

I'm sitting in front of the idiot box (the TV I mean, not my vintage iBook) and quite distinctly heard a few of the default GarageBand samples in a Honda ad.

The ad is principally three columns that rotate in turn to show a few different cars (blue civic, red pickup I believe).

Just thought that was neat to remark.

At the same time, though, it's remarkable (noticeable), which might not be a good thing ;)

I heard the "Emotional Piano" samples in a promo for a TV drama show a few weeks back. Its kind of amazing to think that somewhere out there, some director insisted on an "emotional piano" soundtrack for the ad, and so somebody just fired up GarageBand for the job.

I guess with apps like GarageBand around, there isn't really as much incentive for audio departments to splash out on software that costs 20 times as much.

I remember /right/ after GarageBand first came out, a TV station here (Omni 2) had clearly relied entirely on GarageBand.

And you know what, Apple's project manager for iLife is probably fit to burst as these kinds of comments :)

Hey, if it's good why not use it...right? ;) Whatever gets the job done is what is used.

I think it was faaaaaaaaaaar worse for graphics designers back when every other flyer (well, every flyer, actually, for some time) had KPT's "Page Curl" effect on at least _one_ side. ;)

My only grip with GarageBand though is no MIDI out. I would love to be able to use it with the sounds on my synths. Oh well. I do plan on testing LMMS from a Linux box I've configured for music to see if this allows for MIDI out. Hopefully it might be something I can compile under X11 on Mac OS X at the very least. :p

it pretty sad that ya'll can tell when garageband loops are being used in commericals. lol. but i do have to hand it to ya'll for having an ear good enouph to catch things like that. i am tone deaf, so i could never do it.

as far as midi out, i thought gb did. i had a midi keyboard plugged into my mac at one point and was goofing w/gb and getting sound out of the board. well, maybe it was with the midi setup app, now i'm not sure, thatks alot nix!

Nah, GarageBand doesn't have MIDI out. That's the caveat of having such a wonderful and inexpensive app according to Apple. You want MIDI out then you're goign to have to get Soundtrack or another third party app. :(

I was actually thinking of compiling LMMS on the Mac after downloading the necessary requirements using Fink. I'll let you know how that pans out. :D
