Garageband/Logic - input choice

Ive been playing with garage band for awhile now (and still keeping logic pro in mind) and about the have decent sized project.

So now im wondering whats the nicer way of recording with these tools.

Standalone multitrack recorders, like maybe something like http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Alesis-ADATHD24-Digital-Recorder?sku=246021 And then copy the data over.

Or

Or a active Multi-Channel Audio Interface, like maybe something like http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/ensemble.php Not sure if the risk of hanging/slow downs are worth it.

I would invest in the audio interface and RAM if necessary for your Mac.

If you have more details about what your needs are (recording wise) and what equipment you have we might be able to give more help.

Basically, I would skip the middleman and go live to computer.
 
Im basicly starting with no equipment.

Only cheapo gear was ever bought and it shows. So looking to start over clean. Mostly garage band recording with some extra cash we all have.

I guess the real problem is i really dont know the pros and cons of both types.
