Get rid of XDarwin !!! But how ?

toast

Gone !
I've installed XDarwin + OrobOSX — if I just want to get them off the disk, how should I do ? There's no uninstaller ! Maybe someone will know here — thanx in advance.

Depends on how you installed them. If you just want to get rid of OroborOSX and XDarwin, just trash them. There's no uninstallers on a Mac! :D

If, however, you want to get rid of your entire X Window System installation, that's more complicated, and I'm pretty sure the process for doing so depends on how you installed it in the first place.

I installed using the… installers :D. The problem is: there's no uninstaller anywhere. That's one of the two things I prefer in Windows®: the uninstall programs to get clean-rid off your software when not needed.
The uninstallers were useless, in my opinion, in OS9: afeter a few clicks in the Extensions/Preferences/Control Panels/Application Support/and assimilated folders, you could get rid of anything. Now that OSX has a really more complicated structure, it would be good to find an uninstall function somewhere.

An idea would be this: a program which you run just before you run the installer — the program watches your disk, and keeps record of all the files created. Then store it somewhere, and if needed, can just erase the files for you. Fine, hm? :) Idea of mine, someone more competent must had have it years ago ;).

Good call, fbp-man. I think there's a Cocoa one as well. Either should be easily locatable with some intelligent searching.

the X windows system usually resides almost completely in /usr/X11R6, so doing a 'sudo rm -Rf /usr/X11R6' should kill most of it. there's probably also stuff in /etc/X11, so also do a 'sudo rm -Rf /etc/X11'

if you used fink, i think the same procedure applies for the most part, except fink prefixes everything with /sw. i'm not sure if this is still the case, as i haven't used fink in a loooong time.
