"In Windows XP, right click on the photo and choose properties. Click on the Summary tab. Click on the "advanced" button. You should see all the details that your camera tagged onto your photo, including the F-stop."

Is there anything like this in OSX. Aperture gives some but not all and I couldn't get any in iPhoto.

In OS X, right-click on the photo, and choose Open With Preview.
when that opens, type command-I (brings up the inspector window). There, you will have access to the exif data, and other info about that picture file.
In iPhoto - choose "Show Extended photo info" from the Photo menu, for the selected photo, or just press Option-Command-I

You are talking about EXIF data. iPhoto and just about every other photograph-compatible raster graphics application can display it. In iPhoto:
  1. Double-click your photograph.
  2. Press [cmd]+[i].
  3. There is no Step 3.
