Ghost in the Mac

Anyone ever had the same uncanny experience? I shut down my mac, and it powers off all right. But after a minute or two, I hear the startup chime, and it springs back to life. Must be some background process, but which process is able to make that happen once the power is off? Also, couldn't detect any fishy processes with top. I'm clueless. Anyone an idea?

I' had a similar problem on a PowerMac G3 ....

unfortunatly i had to change the motherboard....

but ... try to disconnect the ethernet cable
reboot your mac with the apple-option-o-f keys down
(you will get in a blanck screen with some little words ... it's called open-firmware)
then type
reset-NVRAM
reset-all

your mac will reboot

now leave the ethernet link off

and....

let's know how happend to your systen when it shut down

(you can also try to temp. remove your motherboad battery ... you 'll lose date&time setting but this could be help you)
