Give my head peace

Apparently, although I don't really believe this, I unwittingly forwarded a virus to a PC user. So being the conscientious man I am, I installed Intego's VirusBarrier. A moment of insanity I hear you say?

Problem 1: To get the friggin' thing fully installed I had to install and update/re-boot nine times.

Problem 2: Once installed it caused havoc with /.Library permissions.

I used a variety of measures to correct the problem (disc repair from the original OS installer CD, Onyx, DiscWarrier, Clean Install), but only a complete ‘Erase & Install’ finally solved the issue. Six hours in all it took to sort it out.

I now have ClamXav installed instead (yea, I know ..).

My 1st question: Does anyone know an on-line therapy service that can provide sympathetic support for a person in my position?

My 2nd question: Would electro-convulsive therapy help prevent me making a similar mistake again in the future?

I made the same mistake a couple of months back installing Symantec Antivirus. Work provided me with a copy, at their cost. It caused more problems than it fixed - well, duh. Number of viruses: 0, Number of times I couldn't work out why my system was crawling to a halt in the middle of a game: 10. Number of days till I snapped out of it, and ran the uninstaller (Thanks, Symantec, for at least getting that right): 5

I feel your pain, bro.

Open a text editor, write "It's Microsoft's fault." a dozen times, save the file to the Desktop and then erase it. Usually does the trick for me after I've done something stupid to my Mac. (Although I rarely do, nowadays...) ;)
