go for 12" Pbook or wait for 15" replacement?

Hey everyone,

I am in need of a new computer, and I am going to snag either a 12 or 15 Alubook. Unforntunately, we have no real idea when the 15 is being released, and I like the 12. It's smaller, which is much more portable. I have an external CRT to plug it into so I am not really worried about screen size. However, in all the tests it is shown to be slower than the current TiBook.

What do you think? Go for the 12 or wait (for however long) for the 15? Until then I am still bangin away on my P.O.S. Compaq Presario laptop.

Thanks,
Dan

We really don't know how long it will take before the 15 gets updated, nor do we know what price the updated 15 will have. And lets be honest, the 12" PB is pretty cool. So, unless you're specifically worried about the screen size or performance (and having taken a 12inch for a test drive, I am extremely impressed on both counts) then I'd just go for the 12". What do you intend to use it for?

I've the same problem. I would grab a 12" if I knew that it would make using Rebirth usable, screen wise. My iBook can handle the program processor wise no problem, but at only 800x600 resolution, it's trying at times as I can only see 3 instruments at a time. I guess my confusion is exactly how much more screen space will the higher resolution PB give me? That's probably not a question that can really be answered but one I would love to have an answer for.

I am in exactly the same decision making process. I really like the size of the 12 but I would really like to have at least a 1 gig processor. The 867 may be fast but it doesn't have any L3 cache and I really want this for performance.

I feel like 1 ghz would be the best speed to have in the long run. I am wanting to buy a PB to replace my aging Cube. So in a nutshell, I am going to wait for the 15.4 (or whatever they turn out to be) update before making a purchase. I will most likely still purchase the new 15.4 though.
