Google Chrome Desktop Icon

i have a Mac pro, Running 10.6.8 for my search engine. Today, all of a sudden, a circled #1 appeared on my Google Desktop Icon.
What is this for? I'm a dummy when it comes to something like this.

Thanks anyway, but I just discovered it was a number for a download, To get rid of it, go to "Window"at the top and click on downloads.
Then delete it
