hey all

im trying to run some games on my windows os and they wont work (boiling point: road to hell, postal 2 and expantion) i dont get why postal seems to load up ok till it gets to the menu screen and then it goes crazy like fast forwarding and skiping all over the shop with the writing of the main menu dissapering then it just stalls... boiling point goes bright green on the intro clips then freezes on the lev load screen... wtf....

ive ran some other games like return to castle wolfenstien, scarface and mcm2 and they run fine no drama what so ever...

ive tryed re installing both more than once and they install ok

is this perhaps a graphics card issue...

my machine is a macbook pro 2.33ghz duo, 2g ram, ati x1600 256mb

You're actually fortunate to have been able to play games on your MS emulator. Once you get past a certain point in graphics and animation technology, displaying them will get increasingly difficult. Which is probably the reason why it only happens once you get into the actual game. Cheers for people like us who enjoy all thet new gaming technology that comes out, but these Windows emulators like Virtual PC can't quite take the challenges graphically. I found THAT out trying to do some killing in F.E.A.R. through Virtual PC. After the introductions my machine would just crash. So I discovered that using Windows OS is strictly for those lowly software products that only come in Microsoft formats... like those document and spreadsheet programs, low bit games, and periphery software.

This is actually all through my personal experience and research... of course it may vary depending on the circumstance, so to sum up, OS just runs a windows graphic card emulator, if it can't handle it, it freaks out.

Tricsigns - are you running windows in virtualization (such as Parallels, which is not really an emulator) or are you booted to Windows through the use of Boot Camp. Greg Reez is just guessing, I think.
If you are using Parallels, then gaming is just not very good. On the other hand, most games should be OK when you are actually booted to Windows.

I wouldn't post if I was just guessing bro, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion : ) I'm not into giving misleading information. Anyway, Tricsigns it sounded like your question related somewhat to what I went through a few months ago, so I replied as such. This is what someone told me in Early January. January 3rd to be exact, when posted to tech support:

Question:

MAC Details:

OSX 10.4.8, Dual 2.3, PowerPC G5

2 GB DDR2 SDRAM

I've been trying to play a new PC game called F.E.A.R. on my MAC using virtual PC but it doesn't seem to be working. I recieve a message when it starts to run saying "Unable to initialize the renderer to a valid video mode."

Does this just mean that I can't do PC games using Virtual PC?

or is there a solution?

Answer:

Greg,
You will not be able to do anything that requires more than something like an 8 or 16 MB video card using virtual PC (I'm not sure about the exact specs, you can look for them in the VPC documentation). There is no "solution," as Virtual PC uses video card emulation, making a virtual card that is comparable to a VERY outdated real card. Certainly F.E.A.R. would be an example of a game which relies on video power and therefore needs a real card.

Hopefully you understand I would never you just a guess, unless I say "I'm just guessing". So just take what I gave you as a possible explanation.

Since he's using an intel Mac, he's _not_ using VirtualPC.
It's either Parallels (or similar) or BootCamp.
AFAIK you'll only play games via BootCamp. That the case?
If on Parallels: Forget about it for now. Emulated graphics like that won't work for games.

cheers to all
fryke is right...i am running windows via bootcamp nothing else... thats why i dont get it shouldnt windows run natively? like a windows computer?
and yes i have an intel macbook pro 2.33ghz 2g ram 256 ati x1600 video
