GTK natively for OS X (no xfree86)

I am only a novice programmer, but I was wondering if OS X/Cocoa/Carbon have the ability to use "wrappers" like GTK+ does? Maybe we can create a GTK+ wrapper for OS X and be able to compile all those nice GTK apps we want....Or maybe I have no idea what the heck I am talking about...

This would be a cool/easy way of porting all those nice Opensource apps. Is there any other alternative?

Well, Qt is out for OS X, so I don't see any reason GTK couldn't be ported. There is a sourceforge project to do that, I believe, but not much activity on it.
