Half Life on Mac

I see that Half life is released on Linux based computers with WineX ( http://www.winehq.com/ ) to emulate Microsoft DirectX.

It's time to Valve ( http://www.valve.org ) to release a version of half life for Mac !

http://lhl.linuxgames.com/

With MacOS X.1 nobody can say "Make a game for mac is too difficult".

No more thing handicap the Mac !
- We have OpenGL !
- We have Unix !
- We have nVidia chips !

There are more Mac than Linux based computers !!!

So,

Please, give us some good PC games on our favorite OS platform !!

Guys, email Valve to ask them to port HL on Mac !!!

With HL on Mac, we'll have Counter-Strike ( http://www.counter-strike.net ) too !!!! and all of the good mods with it !!!

Sorry for my english, i am french.

:p

it's actually Sierra that chooses what platforms Half-Life can be released on. The source was actually given to MacSoft which was about to release the game but Sierra, at the last minute, decided to kill the contract due to some technicality. Sierra has a problem with Macs, so you probably won't be seeing anything from them comming to us soon.

BTW, the Half-Life engine is older than God, in fact, I think God created the Half-Life on the 6th day .. put your efforts into HL2 which is in production and should have just as good of a (if not better) MOD community than the original half-life does right now.

As if any mod is going to be able to compete with teamfortress 2! The engine is the same :D

Unfortunately the rights are still in Sierra's pockets so the chances of there being a mac port are still just as likely as there being a tribes 2 for mac... hahaha :p

Yeah, it's hard to believe that they actually had the entire game ported and then scrapped it because the Mac networking code wouldn't play fair with the PC networking code. Shame really. I wouldn't be networking with any PC players anyway.

Very confusing all this wine stuff... what is suggestion to which one we should be using?

Thanks for post and we wait in anticipation.

Regards

Ben

Logicware was doing the port for Sierra (who was going to publish it). Valve decided to axe Mac Half-Life when it was probably a week a way from being declared Gold Master. Right before they cancelled it, word got out that Logicware had deliberately disabled PC to Mac networking since Valve didn't want to have to constantly pay someone to update the Mac versions network protocols. Macgamers went into Uproar mode, and within a month, the game was cancelled.

Here's a link to an open letter from Gabe Newell of Valve:

That's one reason why I'll never by a Sierra or Valve product. Cheap bastards...

Yeah, that pisses me off too.
Anyways, its too bad that Sierra decided to cancel it. For now I have a PC running just to play Half-Life Counterstrike. I tried to diverge away from it by installing Quake 3 arena mods. But nothing beats the realism of the game.
Oh well, I hope in time, Sierra will rethink their steps and port the unfinished code to a release.

The day Half-Life comes to the mac (and therefore also Counterstrike) will be the most black and embarrasing day since Apple released the horrid Flower-Power/Blue Dalmatian colour scheme on the iMac! Comon, we dont NEED that kind of game, it will only trouble your macs ass!
