This is a really weird problem but it's happened twice now on the same Mac. It's a G5 running OSX 10.4.8 on a network with 3 other identical Macs.
The problem is that the hard disk keeps renaming itself automatically & the username & password stop working. Sounds ridiculous I know, since I thought the only way you could rename the hard disk was to literally retype the name like you would with any folder.
The first time it happened was a couple of months ago when the name got changed to "320". But we put it down to the cleaners possibly knocking the keyboard or mouse & managing to rename it.
Since then the hard disk got corrupted & had to be replaced yet it's just happened again - this time "320" has been added to the end of the disk name & the username & password don't work again.
There must be something changing it but I can't think what.
Also, would the disk name changing affect the account password?
Any suggestions welcome!
