Hard Drive compatibility with Powerbook?

Firstly my apologies for continuing to post in these forums, i'm fining it really really difficult to get any help from the apple help line, seriously dissapointed.

I need to buy a new hard drive for my 12" G4 Aluminum Powerbook.
I have found this...

Can i install and use this in my mac?

As for that hard drive, it will work fine in your Powerbook.

I purchased an external USB HD and my 12" Powerbook will not recognise it at all. Here's the kicker. At school we have some old G4 towers running 10.3.9 and it will recognise it just fine. I've partitioned it and retried it on my Powerbook but nothing works... any advice would be awesome.
