I am using a disk utlity "Drive Genius" with the hopes of defragging my main hard disk and optimizing performance. Yet it wont let me defrag until i verify the disk, but when i try to verify the disk it gets about 3/4 done than states "There is a problem with this volume" same when i attempt repair. I did a full disk block scan and it did come up with 1 bad sector. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do short of replacing the hard drive / reformatting?? Any help would be appreciated thnx!

There is no need to defrag your mac disk. Check out search and you will find a lot of threads all concluding that it's useless.
Are you talking about Disk Utilities "verify the disk" or Drive Genius? If it's the option under Disk Utility then try to boot into your installer DVD or CD and try from there.
Good luck!

I've had that error before, but usually if I reboot, or simply just run the process again, it will fix up without issue. It is pretty startling the first time you see it though! :)
