Hardware ok, still programs quit, need to reboot

I posted another thread with my panic log on Friday. BobW said it sounded like a memory stick problem. I ran Apple hardware test cd and it said every thing was ok. I still have problems with programs unexpectedly quitting, especially web browsers for some reason. This morning I tried to open photoshop, with no other programs open, and it quit even before it opened. On the third attempt to open photoshop I got the error message that I needed to restart the computer. After the restart everything was fine and has been for the last couple of hours.

Can it still be the memory that’s giving me the problem even though Apple Hardware Test has checked it and it says it’s all right? I need my computer to work and right now I don’t have the cash to bring it in to a repair center and have it checked.

It’s a G4 dual 1.5 gig processors running OS X Tiger. I have about 1.5 gigs of ram installed.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Create a test user. This'll give all applications (and the Finder etc.) clean prefs. See if it then happens also. This is the common thing to do to evaluate whether a problem is on the system/hardware level or on the user-settings level. I always create such an account when I set up new systems. Just to have something to compare problems to.

I created a test user and that was bad as well. Software update would start and then quit. i went back to my original user name and Firefox and Camino browsers had disappeared. Had to reload them. I tried software update and it fails to launch under my account as well.

In three years never had a problem with this machine. The ram I've installed was put in more than three months ago and never had a proble. It tests fine but I'm starting to think there could be a problen that doesn't show up in the hardware test.
