Hardware support on an OSX iMac

Hi

I need to be able to run an Epson Stylus Photo 700 printer and a Canon CanoScan FB630U. The Canon is USB and the Epson is a PC/Mac but the mac one is serial. I know I can find a serial to USB converter, but the problem is neither of these have drivers for OS X.

Would it be a really bad idea to install the OS 9 drivers and hope for the best?

What other options do I have? I am buying my iMac within a month, but I can't afford a new scanner and printer.

Thank you for your help, however I have already looked at those pages, and they both have things mentioning incompatiblity with OS X.

Can I just use the 9.2 driver?
