I've downloaded the binaries to Darwin from xfree86.org and then put XAqua 0.5 over them. Then I tried running XDarwin, but I didn't work. Neither did running startx from the console. Starting Xdarwin from the console did actually work, but that's only the half of it. No connection and therefor I had to ssh in and kill x as well as init. :)

Well, this seems like a great solution if it works, but does it? How can I configure it, and what do I need to configure?

Works fine for me.

Configuring ssh for XFree86 4 on Darwin will be no different than on other platforms.
