Would this: Seagate 250GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer Hard Drive fit into a 500 Mhz G3 iBook (dual USB kind)? I can't figure this out, i've never replaced a HD before...

Or would I be better off saving up for a new computer (which I'd rather not do.)

There are presently no laptop drives larger than 160GB. You need to get a 2.5-inch ATA drive for a replacement in your iBook. Replacement drives larger than 100GB are still quite expensive. 7200 rpm drives tend to run hotter, and may not be the best choice for an iBook. If you do need a lot of storage space (the 250GB drive, for example), then buy the drive, and get an external Firewire case for it. Of course, you lose some portability, but you can have as much storage as you want that way.

sounds like you want to install a 3.5" Hard drive into a laptop (laptops are 2.5") Get an external FIREWIRE enclosure, and do it that way.

And If you've never taken an iBook apart b4, take a quick look through this guide (this is the HD replacement guide for a 12" ibook. Click here if you have a 14") and decide if it's something you're willing to try, first.

It can be pretty intense, but these guides are very thorough and inculde good photos to help you along the way. Just be careful, there's Gypsy magic in those things.

Oh, and don't mix up your screws. Put them all in different, labeled paper cups. Then you won't end up with "leftover" screws. That would be very bad.
