I bought a Lacie 160 gb gd about 1 year ago for my mac mini. Lately someone has been coming into my room and searching through it. So i selected the External Hd and went to get info, and no access. Then this person restarted my comuter. Now i cannot find my hd on the computer but if i unplug it, it say device was not properly removed.
IS THERE A WAY TO PROPERLY ADD THIS TO MY DESKTOP AGAIN?
CAN I HAVE IT AGAIN WITHOUT LOSING MY MEMEORY MY HD?

When you say that you can't find the hard drive on your computer, do you mean that you don't see the icon on your desktop or in Finder? Have you tried running Disk Utility? The volume should be visible there even if it's not mounted, and you should be able to fix permisions from there.

The disk utility is showing it, but i don't know how to acces the files or restore it to my finder and desktop.

On my internal hd it say i can verify and repair disk permissions but not on my external hd its not highlited

Use terminal and try this;

sudo chmod -R +rw /Volumes/nameofdisk
sudo chown root /Volumes/nameofdisk
sudo chgrp wheel /Volumes/nameofdisk

If it mounts, use GetInfo on it to set Permissions.

Am i typing something wrong? I am typing the first line like this, sudo chmod -R +rw /Volumes/LaCie Group SA. Its it keeps coming up with no such file or directory found. My ext hd is showing its name as LaCie Group SA when i originally named it External Hard Drive.

Ok, good new while i was in Spotlight and i opened it up in a seperate window, at the bottom right hand corner i was able to choose from which hd i can search. my ext hd i selected i could specify what i searched for but, how do i mount it?
