HELP: Character Viewer opens every time an app needs admin access

It's the weirdest thing.

I always use a non-admin account for my day-to-day work to safeguard against any unauthorized system activity. So if I need to do an install, for example, I'll go through the Authorization dialogue...inputting my admin password only on a case-by-case basis.

Of late, though, every single time admin-level permissions are needed (thus popping up the Authorization request) the Character Viewer app opens. Without fail. And I can't figure out why or, by extension, how to make it stop. It doesn't harm anything....but it's damned inconvenient, to say the least.

If anyone has seen this issue and can advise me I'd certainly appreciate it.

Many thanks!

It's a map of less common and non-standard text (and text-like) characters that you can use to get those characters into a document you're working on. Go into your System Preferences > Language & Text. Under the 'Input Sources' tab is a checkbox for 'Keyboard & Character Viewer' - if you tick that box, the viewer will appear as another item in your menubar so it's always easily available.
