i am running a Imac Mac OS X version 10.4.11 i have 69.46 GB left on my harddrive Recently my computer has bogged down. SOmetimes taking anywhere from 2 minutes to 15 minutes to open an application without having the spinning wheel up. Shortly after that happend i restarted my mac to see if maybe it needed to restart and it crashed on me. Gave me a blank startup screen although still recognizing the start up chimes for 4 hours it restarted and restarted trying to find a way to load up Finaly after recognizing that there is a system it loaded to the apple logo but gave a question mark over the apple I inserted the disk to boot from after an hour of attempts it allowed the system to boot up to the log in after logging in the system was very slow and then got faster Back to its original state prior to the crash course start up. Later that evening went to it back up and repeated the slow inconsistent loads It started to affect the internet WHich i questioned to be the new upgrade of FIrefox that was installed the day before. Nothing changed after i uninstalled it, so i was just running safari, cleaned my computer desktop and dock up, ran a scan of any known viruses tracking cookies etc. Yet it is still running slow I have searched forum and done what they have recommended but stil have had no luck in solving this SLOW SLOW computer problem im having if anyone could help i would be very grateful. Bless and happy holidays

Get your data backed up ASAP. Sounds like the HD may be failing. Boot to your install DVD and go to utilities/disk utility. Select your HD in the left hand column and run repair disk and post back here with results.

Thank you much for your tips, i was blessed with my husband knocking the power out in my office while starting the back-up. Needless to say my IMAC never made it thru the outage. looks like i lost everything and get to start new. But thank you again for your help.

How did it not survive? Does the computer not even turn on now, or it just won't boot?

You might still be able to recover data through recovery programs if you take out the hard drive and connect it to another computer if you really need the information that was on it.
