I have a new macbook that was working fine yesterday and today its like its about to die.

Everything is taking minutes to open. Safari is not responding. Little spinny icon is just spinning and spinning.

I have a brandnew macbook 13'. OS X software. 2 weeks old

I installed 4GB Ram and a 500gb HD a couple of days ago. Everything was running perfectly, no problems.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dont know where to start?

1. Open Activity Monitor and see what is eating up your processor.
2. Download the free Onyx or shareware Cocktail and run the maintenance scripts.

See if that helps.

Hi J.D,

Im in Activity monitor - what should I be looking for exactly? the CPU or the memory part? In system memory I have 2.96GB free. CPU show always above 93% idle.

Safari is not responding, then its responds but is taking ages to start working, just managed to get to google to search for onyx, (im posting from my PC here), so when it finally gets to download Onyx I will get that running.

Thanks
Adam

Both. Since your processor is not overworking, then I suspect the problem is with cleaning up your caches. When you try to browse--leaving Activity Monitor open--see what happens to the CPU use.

Anyways, I would try Onyx first. I am surprised, though, that you could accumulate so much in two weeks.

Im getting there on the onyx site, in the next ten mins I may be able to press the download button :)

Lowest Ive seen the idle drops to is 50% when I on the browser, but only for an instant and its right back up again.

I'll see how onyx gets on and post back. thanks for your help

Did you install anything?
Like lots of applications of 10,000 fonts? A big number of fonts (doesn't have to be in hundreds even...) are often among the things that cause slowness.
