HELP. How do you uninstall Windows Media Player 9 from OS X?

I could really use some help on this issue as it is driving me up the wall!

About a month ago, I downloaded Windows Media Player 9 to my PowerBook G4 that is running the most recent version of OS X. I installed the program and it was stored in my Applications Folder.

Today, I decided that I wanted to uninstall Windows Media Player 9 from my computer. Well I guess this is easier said than done.

I ran Finder and found all files for Windows Media Player 9.

I then moved them all to the trash and attempted to empty. When i clicked empty, some files deleted, but the main program would not delete. Instead, a warning pop-up window appears that reads...

"The operation cannot be completed because the item "wmphelp.htm" is locked."

...if I clicked continue, the pop-up warning continued scrolling through what appeared to be every last file associated with Windows Media Player 9, yet, if you attempt to re-open Windows Media Player 9, it tries to open, and then defaults to an error pop-up asking me if I want to send a report.

I figured there was an easy solution awaiting me on the internet, I was wrong. There is a ton of information on Windows based operating systems and the issues there, but very little information on Windows Media Player 9 and Mac, even on Microsoft's site (their site simply reference WMP 7).

I stumbled across two sites that seemed to have a solution, but when I followed the advice, it was to no avail. One site recommended holding the alt/option key while emptying the trash, well, this did nothing, another site recommended going into the Terminal and typing some text that I cannot recall offhand, but I followed these directions, and even in the Terminal, the applicaiton seemed to still show that it was locked!

DOES ANYONE KNOW THE PROPER WAY TO COMPLETELY REMOVE WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 9 OFF OF MY POWERBOOK G4?

If so, your a Saint on Christmas Eve! ::angel::

Take the file out of the trash;

Open the terminal and type:

cd ~/.Trash
<hit return>

sudo rm -rf

put a space after the f and drag the item you want deleted to the terminal so that its path is automatically entered, then press return

give it your admin password and hit return

Although deleting items from the trash using terminal is fairly easy, there are several utilities that make this process, as well as numerous other system maintenance on OS X very simple and (almost) foolproof.
You can find all of these at versiontracker.com
Onyx
Maintain1
Xupport
macaroni
others, just search for OS X maintain

For future reference, there's a checkbox in the Get Info window for Locking a file. It's supposed to stop you from deleting important files.

You can just uncheck the "Locked" option, and then it'll delete fine.

Hi! I'm afraid I also can't seem to remove the Media Player that I installed to my G4 OS X. I tried to follow the steps:
  1. Take the file out of trash
  2. open the terminal
  3. type: cd ~/.Trash
  4. <hit return>
  5. type: sudo rm-rf
  6. leave a space after f then drag the items you want to delete to the terminal
  7. <press return>
  8. give it your admin password
I get this reply: -bash: sudorm-rf: command not found
Please advice me.....thank you
