Help - iMac too Slow for 6MP Digital Rebel Photos

Okay, I'm home now. ;) Just ran vm_stat 15 and am posting the results below. Thanks for the info on the pageins/pageouts. Good to know that I don't have to reboot this computer just to keep it running smoothly. (And clearly a reboot didn't work because I just rebooted a short while ago and iPhoto was still a dog.)

Thanks again! I really appreciate it!

I woke up early this morning and reinstalled Panther, wiping the previous installation and hard drive completely. Took awhile, but got the system up and downloaded all of the latest updates. Then I ran 'repair permissions' and had a few repairs to do.

Then I started up iPhoto and imported one of the libraries that had previously been so slow. Lo and behold, it was fast!

I then ran vm_stat 15 and though I have no idea what it means, I figured Brian would. ;) Here are the results:

Thanks everyone for your help, particularly Brian for the education on memory and 'top'. I am much happier now. I plan on upgrading the memory still, and iPhoto4, but at least the old iPhoto runs at a pretty good clip now!
