just added another 512mb ram to my imac G5 to try and make it 1gb, it slotted in fine but when I turn it on it makes the usual startup noise but stays blank, I can then hear the fan come on. ive tried swapping the ram around and trying it with just the new one and it still doesnt work. the ram I bought was 512MB DDR 400MHZ Memory Ram PC3200 184 pin

any ideas?

Mac OS X is very picky when it comes to RAM. Although sometimes going with cheap RAM works on PCs, they're not as sensitive to RAM timings as Mac OS X is. Thus, slight variations in timing can cause problems. If you're looking for quality RAM to use on your Mac, the best place is to check out some of the Apple certified vendors out there like OWC and a few others that specialize in Mac upgrades.

It's always best no matter what system you have to get quality RAM. You're computer will thank you for it. :)

It might work, but seriously I wouldn't purchase RAM from eBay. it's kind of a crapshoot if you ask me. Stick with reliable vendors. Sure it's not as cheap as eBay, but you're assured that it's going to work and that you won't get taken.
