Help! Iphoto library is missing!

When I attempted to open the iPhoto program, I was unable to do so and I received the following message:

"Your Photo Library was not found. Would you like to find your Photo Library? iPhoto can’t continue without a Photo Library. Make sure the disk containing your Photo Library is connected."

This is very strange because I have never moved any of my IPhoto info to an alternate drive, or anywhere else.

I have an Ibook G4 with IPhoto 6.0 and Mac OSX.

I have also tried looking in User and found that "Library>Pictures" is not even there! When I pull up my Finder, "Photos" does not even appear in the left hand bar below "Applications", "Documents", "Movies", "Music". It is as if it has completely disappeared and I have not done anything (to my knowledge) to delete it! It is just somehow gone.

Any suggestions? Please help! I am going crazy over here....

Thanks very much!

Your iPhoto Library is either there or it is not. Your Pictures folder is either there or it is not. However, none of this stuff can spontaneously disappear. Have you "reinstalled" you OS? Have you done anything else that may have impacted your file structure?

Where is your iPhoto library located? At default location? On an external drive?
Did you rename your home folder by any chance?

Hello :)

You mention "looking in User & that the Applications, Documents, Movies", Music folders don't show ..."

I'm unsure whether you have checked:

MacintoshHD ~> Users ~> YourUserName ~>

Your account will have the 'House' icon, check there for the missing photos and others.

hi! yes, i did check there. there is a folder for "pictures" but there is nothing inside! is there another place i should check there? i also did a search for "library" and there is nothing! so confused. thanks for responding...and any other suggestions you might have!

hi misterme,
i totally agree with you! but the weird thing is, i haven't reinstalled or uninstalled anything. the only thing that i did recently was move some things onto an external drive. there was a folder of pictures that i moved on there, but they were shared photos that i had in a folder on my desktop, not from my actual iphoto library. i checked the external drive to see if they were there, and then moved that folder back onto my desktop just in case, but still nothing. could moving some things to the external drive have affected it? thanks for your suggestions...

it has always been located at the default location, i haven't moved it to any external drive. another thing is that my amoung of gigabytes available has not changed at all. if the iphoto library was not there, or had been deleted somehow, wouldn't that have freed up space on my hard drive?. thanks for your help...
